Seniors say “Yea Yea”

Senior Citizens Say “Yea Yea!” A
Paramin Adventure with Heart

Let me tell you about the kind of tour that reminds you why you love this job. This wasn’t your typical midweek adventure; this was a full-blown, high-energy expedition with a group of retirees from the Community Care Credit Union in Curepe, organized through Simone Claxton Destination Management Consultancy. And when I say high energy, I mean high energy.

Two maxis rolled out that morning, piloted by our fantastic drivers Kester and Jason. Sharon from Brown Girls Tours joined me as co-guide, and from the moment this group assembled, we knew we were in for something special. Coolers packed? Check. Cutters loaded with geera chicken? Double check. Spirits soaring? Absolutely.

The Journey Begins at the Jeep Stand

By the time we reached the Jeep Stand in Maraval, the party was already in full swing. First stop? The bar for some liquid refreshment, naturally. Because why wait to start enjoying yourself when the journey itself is part of the adventure? This group had it figured out.

Now, I know several of my recent blogs have featured Paramin experiences, and I want to be clear, this isn’t the only tour we offer at Tebet Tours. We create experiences all across Trinidad and Tobago. But there’s something about Paramin that brings out pure joy in people, and watching faces light up as they discover this mountain village never gets old. It’s heartwarming every single time, and that’s why I keep writing about it.

Wine, Laughter, and Village Magic

As we wound our way up the mountain, making our usual stops, the excitement built. The wine tasting with Hezma? An absolute winner with this crew. The laughter, the camaraderie, the genuine appreciation for the local flavor, literally, it was infectious.

The village experience wrapped around them like a warm embrace. Every corner, every view, every interaction with the friendly Paramin locals added another layer to their day. These weren’t just tourists passing through; they were guests being welcomed home.

Ms. Gloria’s Divine Cooking

Then came lunch at Ms. Gloria’s. Now, when I tell you this woman’s cooking is divine, I mean divine. The group settled in, and plate after plate of authentic Paramin cuisine emerged. You could see it on their faces, that moment when really good food transcends just eating and becomes an experience. Ms. Gloria doesn’t just cook, she pours love and tradition into every dish, and this group felt every bit of it.

Over at M&M Preservatives, Marlene worked her magic as always. While some folks were admiring her preserves and local products, others were leaving with fresh bundles of seasoning. Because nothing says “I went to Paramin” quite like bringing home the flavors to recreate a little piece of the mountain in your own kitchen.

La Vigie and the “Old People” Incident

Then came La Vigie Lookout, slightly foggy but absolutely serene. The group stood there, taking it all in, mesmerized by the quiet beauty of being above the world. It was one of those moments where you could see the stress of everyday life just melt away.

But the most memorable moment? Oh, this still makes me laugh. We were trying to organize a group photo, you know how it goes, herding cats, but with cameras. Someone in the group mentioned they were old people, and without thinking, I repeated it.

Big mistake.

One lovely lady immediately shot back, “Who you calling old??”

Quick thinking required. I grinned and called out, “Okay, okay! All senior citizens say ‘Yea Yea!'”

And in perfect chorus, most of the group responded: “YEA YEA!”

The burst of laughter that followed echoed across the mountaintop. It was pure, unfiltered joy, the kind of moment you can’t plan, you can only embrace when it happens.

Why We Love Building Group Experiences

Tours like this are an absolute pleasure to create. There’s something magical about watching a group of friends, colleagues, or community members share an experience together. The inside jokes that develop, the group photos that will end up on someone’s wall, the stories they’ll tell for years, “Remember when we went to Paramin and Tebet tried to call us old?”

At Tebet Tours Ltd, we specialize in crafting these unique group experiences. Whether you’re a credit union, a church group, a reunion crew, a corporate team, or just a bunch of friends who want an adventure, we build the tour around you. Your energy, your interests, your vibe becomes the blueprint for your day.

And here’s the beautiful thing: no two groups are the same, which means no two tours are the same. We take pride in reading the room, adjusting on the fly, and making sure every person in your group feels like this experience was designed just for them.

Taste the Village, Take Home the Flavor

This tour touched on some of the best that Paramin has to offer. Hezma’s wine tasting, Ms. Gloria’s divine cooking, Marlene’s preserves and fresh seasoning at M&M Preservatives, and the breathtaking serenity of La Vigie Lookout. Each stop added its own special ingredient to the day, creating a feast for all the senses.
