Some tours are just bookings. Some are adventures. And then, very rarely, some become the foundation of a friendship that transcends the guide and guest relationship. This is the story of Nik, and how one inquiry changed everything for Tebet Tours.
The Beginning: A Content Creator with an Adventurous Spirit
I received an inquiry from a young social media travel content creator who was interested in spending a few days in Trinidad, including a visit to Tobago,
in June 2024. She was filled with adventure, ready to explore, and looking for someone who could curate an authentic experience across both islands. This was Tebet Tours’ first full DMC offering, and I was determined to make it unforgettable.
Here’s something important: Nik was a lone female traveler. She arrived in Trinidad and Tobago by herself, and I know that can raise questions and concerns. Is it safe? Can I trust the people I’m working with? Will I be vulnerable?
Let me tell you what happened. We secured a beautiful, safe space for her at Sweet Escape Apartments in Arouca, just a stone’s throw from the airport, where she stayed for five nights. For Tobago, we arranged Shepherd’s Inn. From the moment she landed to the moment she departed, her safety and comfort were our top priorities. And you know what? She thrived. She explored freely, laughed openly, and experienced our islands without fear.
Adventures Across Every Corner
Over those days, we didn’t just visit Trinidad and Tobago. We lived it. North, South, East, and West, we covered this twin island nation like it was our personal playground.
We jet skied and enjoyed water activities in Tobago with Waterholics, the ocean spray mixing with laughter. We zipped through the forest canopy with ZipitTT, adrenaline pumping. We tore up trails on ATVs with NorthridersTT, mud flying.
We floated in the therapeutic mud at Los Iros Mud Volcano and walked to the beach afterward, transformed into temporary statues.
We visited Maracas and pushed beyond to the beaches that lie past the usual tourist stops, including 100 Steps. There’s a photo on the Tebet Tours website of her on that open beach, and every time I see it, I’m transported back to that moment of pure freedom and discovery.
In Paramin, we experienced true village hospitality. We even sat on a step and had lunch, and it felt totally homely. This Guyanese lady was comfortable in Trinidad, and Trinidad was comfortable with her.
From Chacacabana where we enjoyed the bay, to Fort George, to Fort King George in Tobago, to the fabled Silk Cotton tree and countless stops in between, we traced the heartbeat of these islands together. And through it all, she was safe, cared for, and confident.
The Tobago Surprise: Going the Extra Mile
Here’s something people don’t always realize about Tebet Tours: we do tours in both Trinidad AND Tobago. For Nik’s Tobago experience, I arranged for a driver to pick her up from her accommodation and take her to the airport. Meanwhile, I was on a ferry with my vehicle, crossing the waters to meet her in Tobago.
When she arrived in Tobago and saw me there waiting for her, she was pleasantly surprised. Because that’s what you do when you’re committed to creating seamless, safe experiences across both islands. You show up, literally.

Food, Glorious Food
But Nik’s experience wasn’t just about places. It was about truly immersing herself in our culture, and that meant food. She had doubles, that iconic Trini breakfast that makes your taste buds dance. Mango was in season, and she ate an abundance of food and fruits, discovering flavors that you simply can’t replicate anywhere else in the world. From street food to home cooked meals, she tasted Trinidad and Tobago in the most authentic way possible.
Full Cultural Immersion: Becoming a Moko Jumbie
And then came one of the most spectacular moments of her trip. Nik walked on stilts as a Moko Jumbie, that towering figure of Caribbean carnival tradition. She became a fire blower, flames dancing in the night. This was full cultural immersion with Jam a mien, experiencing the artistry and bravery that defines our carnival culture.

Picture this Guyanese content creator, a lone female traveler, balanced on stilts, breathing fire, completely absorbed in the magic of Trinidad’s cultural traditions. It was beautiful, it was bold, it was unforgettable. And she did it all feeling safe and supported.
The Real Story: Beyond the Itinerary
Usually in our blogs, we don’t call names. We keep things professional, focusing on the experiences rather than individuals. But this one is different. We’re calling her Nik, because Nik is special to Tebet Tours, and Tebet Tours is special to Nik.
Was every moment perfect? Honestly, no. She might tell you that I was getting fed up of her at times. I’ll admit, in some instances my tiredness showed. We were human with each other. But we were patient with each other too, and lessons were learned from the experience. That’s what happens when you spend intense days together, not hiding behind professional masks but showing up as real people.
Nik shared smiles, laughter, and even tears with us. The most personal moments happened without her ever feeling judged. She had actually come to Trinidad for her graduation from CUC, but she made a most memorable experience out of her time here, turning what could have been a simple trip into something extraordinary.
The Airport Farewell That Wasn’t Really Goodbye
A few months after that first visit, Nik was in transit through Trinidad. And guess what? We went on a tour again. Because when you connect with someone beyond the transactional nature of tourism, you make time.
Our airport farewell that second time was a bit sad, because this time we weren’t saying goodbye to a guest. We were saying bye to a friend. But here’s the beautiful thing about modern friendship: a friend is never too far. We’re usually on each other’s lives on TikTok, staying connected across the miles, keeping that bond alive.
It Takes a Village: Acknowledging Our Partners
None of this would have been possible without our incredible partners who helped make Nik’s experience unforgettable. A special thank you to Karen of Sweet Escape Apartments, whose warm hospitality and beautiful space provided the perfect home base for Nik’s Trinidad adventure.
Thank you to Shepherd’s Inn in Tobago for the accommodation, Pazyamor Travels for setting us up with accommodation in Tobago, Waterholics for the thrilling water activities, ZipitTT for the adrenaline rush through the canopy, NorthridersTT for the muddy ATV adventures, and Jam a mien for the incredible cultural immersion that allowed Nik to walk as a Moko Jumbie and breathe fire.
These partnerships are the backbone of what
we do at Tebet Tours. We work with people and businesses who share our commitment to authentic, quality, safe experiences, and who understand that hospitality is about more than just providing a service. It’s about creating memories and making people feel at home.
